It was located really close to the metro station, cable cars, and shops. Short walk to Chinatown and Union Square.
Bad Tags
There are a lot of homeless people wandering around, especially at night. Bring earplugs! It's noisy at night. There is no AC, but you don't really need it. Hotel provides fans if needed.

The staff was super friendly. They welcome you with wine and are very helpful with any questions. They provided me with a fan, since the rooms do now have AC.
Bad Tags
I did not like the fact that the room did not have AC. If it hadnt been for the fan, it would've been hard to sleep. I also did not like the location. The street next to it had hordes of homeless people who at time looked threatening.

Hotel is really dirty in a bad neighborhood. It was a hot week and they didn't have air conditioning. The shower was absolutely black from mold. Carpets terribly dirty. We got there and our reservation was booked for only one room.

The only thing it had going for it was that it was near public transit.
Bad Tags
Hotel was under construction, which eliminated all the charming features we had expected. No lobby, messy construction area at entrance, no front desk. Staff unprofessional. Our room was no nicer than a Motel 6. Spotty wifi. Many homeless people around.

The staff were very accomodating considering they had no formal check in desk and the whole lobby and restaurant area was under constructions with tarps all around.
Bad Tags
There were homeless people outside the hotel. I like homeless people but not really knowing if the area was safe concerned me.

The hotel was being remodeled so we had to enter in the side door. The entire street surrounding the door was filled with trash and homeless people who were out there all night.

Location was great for the price--Union Square was a five minute walk and there were several 24 hr diners nearby to eat at. Beds were comfy and shower had great water pressure
Bad Tags
The transient population did hang outside of the hotel and were loud all night--I was very glad to have brought ear plugs. Small housekeeping issues (soap was opened when we got to the room the first night, one burn mark in the comforter)

Price! I stayed here because it's cheap and centrally located.
Bad Tags
It was quite loud at night as it's on a relatively busy intersection. The decor was very old, and the elevator was a bit scary.
