On the most colorful street in Chinatown the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Washington DC/Downtown is close to a dazzling array of dining options. It's also a few blocks from theaters sports and a half a dozen of the city's best museums. With a handsome brick façade this nine-story hotel was treated to a top-to-bottom renovation in 2011. The 198 rooms subtly call to mind the neighborhood outside with Asian-themed artworks. Wi-Fi is free — perfect if you're here on business or just want to keep in touch with friends. There's also a plug-in panel for your mp3 players and other electronic equipment. Beds have extra thick mattresses and the linens are highlighted with designer throws. Complimentary breakfast buffets are a great deal for families and if you're headed out early the staff will pack you a "grab and go" bag of goodies. If your room is so comfy that you don't want to leave you can arrange for room service from the downstairs pub or delivery from any of the nearby eateries. Look what's within two blocks: Sporting events at the Verizon Center wall-to-wall art at the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum and speedy public transportation at the Gallery Place-Chinatown Metro station. Another block and you're at the International Spy Museum and the National Museum of Crime and Punishment. Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport is five miles away. If you like everything to be within walking distance the Fairfield Inn & Suites by Marriott Washington DC/Downtown does nicely. The decor is a attractive surprise and the bill won't give you sticker shock.
Parking was a bit pricey. Next time, we will use a public parking lot.

Location although the Car Share service I used VIA left me off a block away and I did not know which way to go. If I had realized it was a 20 min walk from Union Station I would have walked.
There was no shower gel or lotion

The hotel staff and the management are amazing: responsive, helpful and friendly. Free buffet breakfast and coffee & cookies every evening. On our final morning we were treated to stand-up comedy by one of staff members!
