Salinas, California is located in Monterey County in Central California. The city is most famously known as being the birthplace of Nobel Prize winner in Literature, John Steinbeck; Steinbeck wrote the well known book, Of Mice and Men. The city itself is located less than 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean and less than 20 miles from the world famous Monterey Bay Aquarium. The climate of Salinas is perfect for floral growth and vineyards and is nicknamed the "Salad Bowl of the World". Originally, Salinas had a lot of dry farming for wheat and barley, as well as, potatoes and mustard seeds; however, this changed to growing a large variety of fruits and vegetables in a city in which the economy is largely based on agriculture.

Downtown Salinas, also known as Old town Salinas, has architecture influenced by the Victorian age and is home to the National Steinbeck Center, the Steinbeck House, and the John Steinbeck Library. Other attractions and things to see in Salinas include the Boronda Adobe History Center, the California Rodeo Salinas, and the River Road Wine Trail. There's plenty to see and do in the city of Salinas which boasts the growth of over 30% of the world's lettuce.
